Extra-Curricular

Singapore International School provides a range of after-school activities designed to develop and build on student’s interests and talents.

These acitivites are conducted from 4:15 – 5:00 p.m. most days after school. The range of activities varies each term. A small fee is charged to cover the costs of running the after-school activities programme.

    Creative Writing for Short Stories

    Creative Writing for Short Stories

    Interested in writing and producing your own short film? This program will run over two terms, twice a week. Students will study creative writing strategies and develop short film ideas with Mr. Allen Wilde, a retired musical director.   They’ll study short films from around the world and discuss themes and content. In the second term, students will use mobile phones to record, edit and then premier their short films at a at an SIS film festival.  Fees paid each term.

    As the club name implies, Mr. Kit  will  focus on regionally important news, but also ensure an appreciation of external situations such as the Middle East and Africa.  Students will also discuss reporting and how to know when to trust or when to be suspect of different accounts and resources.

    Debate Club

    Debate Club

    Members of the Debate Club will work together, with Mr. Mike, to learn basic debate skills, researching and writing positions and the art of persuasion. Essentially an “organized argument”, students will debate the merit of certain values and issues of local or national importance covering a range of possible topics from Free Speech and Global Warming to Organic vs. Non-Organic Foods and the Effects of Music on Studying. Ideal for students who love to argue, want to be lawyers or just want to hone their public speaking and critical thinking skills, Debate Club is also highly regarded by most universities and is a great chance for Secondary students to expand their extra-curricular activities!

    Drama Club

    In this program, students are introduced to Readers’ Theatre, a style of theatre which gives them the opportunity to find a story, adapt it to a script and then perform it.  Taught by Ms. Sally, this club is open to secondary students. There is a minimum of four students needed to open the program.

    Mr. Kit, will teach students about geography, both physical and social, as well as a closer look at regional geography and how it relates to them.  He’ll also, present the ideas of basic world geography so student may better grasp the scale of the world.

    Girls on the Run

    Girls on the Run

    This club is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Through Girls on the Run, Ms. Kelsey will teach  life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.  Students will require comfortable clothes and sports shoes.

    Do you love to sing? Do you love to dance? Do you love music and performing? Join Glee club and have the opportunity to create with S.I.S.’s most musical students. Come sing, have fun and perform music both at school and out of school on field trips. Since it takes lots of time to learn songs, choreograph dance parts and perform, Glee club will meet once a week for the entire year.  Fees paid each term.

    Mr. Kit will teach the students how important history is by using local history from Da Nang, Hoi An, and Vietnam as a stepping stone.

    MAD (Make a Difference) Club

    MAD (Make a Difference) Club

    Make a Difference club is a club for secondary students who have interests in social justice topics and would like to find ways to “Make a Difference” in the school, in our community and around the world. M.A.D. club will look at issues like poverty, human rights, children’s
    rights and animal rights among other student chosen topics. M.A.D. club will also do excursions to volunteer opportunities with local organizations.    This club will meet once a week for the entire year.  Fees paid each term.

    Mr. Kit will work to get the students comfortable using maps, as well as learning to identify where they are and how to use maps to their everyday advantage.  Introduce many new kinds of maps, and make sure they understand the idea of a topographic map.

    Mega Structure Club

    Mega Structure Club

    Mr. Kit will help student to understand and identify large scale construction projects and how they are built and operate.  Students first lesson will be an excursion to see Mega Structures in Danang with a focus on the bridges, resorts, and skyscrapers of Da Nang: Novotel, Dragon Bridge, Intercontinental, Airport

    Science Club

    Science Club

    Ms. Teoh will be teaching Life Science Topics through scrapbooking of collections of seeds, flowers, eggs and leaves, studying of bacteria, experiments on yeast, building and investigating parachutes and balloon airplanes.  Student will review topics in the end of the program.

    Vietnam Today

    Mr. Kit will take students on a journey to understand where Vietnam is at in today’s age and world, and where the future of the country is, as well as their place in both of them.  Focus on news and current events but also past situations.

    For the Sports Club After School Program, the students will have the chance to improve their skills whilst playing a variety of fun games.  Each week the students will have the opportunity to play a different game: Basketball, Australian Handball, Badminton, Paddleball and Dodge ball, as well as some other fun warm-up games. So if you love sport and want the chance to play some more, join the Sports Club with Mr. Paul! Students will require comfortable clothes and sports shoes.

    Taekwondo

    Taekwondo is a martial art originating in Korea. It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise.  Cost does not include the uniform which will be sold by the external teachers.

    Yoga

    Yoga

    Children will learn to stretch their bodies and relax their minds through practicing a range of yoga poses and routines, twice a week. This activity will be run by an experienced yoga instructor from Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Kim. Students will require comfortable clothes.
